Absurdist Infusions: Albert Camus, Buddhism & Critical Phenomenology

Anderson, Skyler

In an exercise of comparative philosophy, this thesis intertwines Albert Camus’s absurdism, critical phenomenology, and Buddhism to overcome nihilism and break down the barriers erected by Cartesian mind-body dualism, thereby countering the problem of an annihilatory worldview intrinsically linked to suicide. Alongside the main goal of countering the problem of suicide, this thesis also posits that it is through the overcoming of nihilism that one can transform the Nietzschean death of God into the birth of new gods.
