Vulnerabilities and Adaptive Practices in Khulna, Bangladesh
Khulna, Bangladesh, is a low-lying coastal city highly vulnerable to climate change, facing tidal flooding, drainage congestion, cyclones, storm surges, and salinity intrusion. Rising temperatures, shifting rainfall patterns, and hydro-morphological changes exacerbate risks to livelihoods and infrastructure. The city implements both planned measures, such as drainage and water supply improvements, and autonomous community-level adaptations, including rainwater harvesting and temporary drainage solutions. Strengthening institutional capacity and extending coverage of adaptive infrastructure remain critical to improving resilience for all residents.
