Innovation and Inclusion in Education: Policy and Implementation Strategies
This summary of the edited volume Innovación e inclusión en educación: políticas y estrategias de implementación succinctly navigates a series of papers originally presented at the joint SOMEC/CIES 2019 Midwest Regional Conference in October, 2019, then edited for publication. The papers analyze how innovation and inclusion policies are carried out to promote change and social justice, with a focus on Mexico, but looking at other cases as well for comparison. Among the detailed pieces are a method for developing research skills, a digital technology package, the Mexican continuous training program, the competency-based approach to education, arts and recreational activities to improve reading skills, Orienting Basis of Action technique, and higher education innovation experiences. Topics such as exclusion based on religion are discussed, and a new concept of innovation different from that of the OECD is suggested. The last part compares the social representation of inclusion among university students, analyzes education policies in Mexico, and contrasts relationships between researchers and government officials.
