Coastal Hazard and Action Plans in Miami
Miami-Dade County faces rising sea levels, more intense rainfall, hurricanes, and saltwater intrusion due to its low-lying topography, porous limestone bedrock, and reliance on the Biscayne Aquifer. Projected sea level rise could inundate substantial portions of the county, increasing coastal and inland flooding risks and threatening water supplies. The region is implementing coordinated adaptation strategies through the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Action Plan, emphasizing water management, infrastructure improvements, green infrastructure, and public engagement. These efforts aim to enhance regional resilience, secure water resources, and reduce vulnerability to climate change impacts.
