Mock, Alois

Keynote address delivered at the international conference organized by the Austrian Cultural Institute of New York, the Harriman Institute and the Institute on East Central Europe, Columbia University, September 29, 1993. Austrian Foreign Minister Alois Mock questions the framing of Central Europe as 'sandwiched' between Russia and Germany, argues that European integration provides the best framework for the region's security and prosperity, and advocates gradual opening of common European structures to the new democracies of East Central Europe.
