The Friends' secondary schools in the United States

Totah, Khalil, 1886-1955

Much has been said about the interest of Friends in education, but up to the present time there has been no available matter on the subject, in convenient form. This study, then, modestly attempts to investigate the present conditions of the secondary schools. The primary schools are left out because they are not so numerous and the Colleges deserve a maturer and a more experienced student.

It must be noted that the schools of Orthodox Friends only are studied, wile the rest are treated in a general way. The Hicksites maintain their own schools separately and creditably. They are excluded not because of inferiority of standard or maintenance, but for lack of space. Secondary work done by Colleges is also excluded. The primary grades are ignored as much as possible, wherever they appear. No account is taken of the Friends' institutions for the negroes and Indians.
