São Paulo 100 Parks Program
The São Paulo 100 Parks Program aimed to expand and distribute urban green spaces across the city to enhance climate adaptation, mitigate heat, prevent floods and landslides, and improve biodiversity. Between 2005 and 2012, the program created and expanded over 130 parks, including linear parks along riverbeds and slopes, integrating green infrastructure, environmental restoration, and recreational opportunities. The initiative combined land acquisition, ecological restoration, and community engagement, ensuring sustainable park management and environmental education. This program demonstrates how strategic urban park development can simultaneously address social, ecological, and climate resilience goals in megacities.
