Port Vila, Vanuatu: Strengthening Urban Resilience Through Ecosystem-based Adaptation
The case study focuses on Port Vila, the capital of Vanuatu in Oceania, and addresses its vulnerabilities related to climate change, with an emphasis on its population, urbanisation, and ecological diversity. Specifically, the case-study showcases the Pacific Ecosystems-based Adaptation to Climate Change (PEBACC) project, which is an innovative initiative encompassing estuarine and coastal rehabilitation, river restoration, and community-based agricultural practices. The project not only strengthens ecosystem resilience but also boosts community involvement, thereby setting a precedent for future climate change adaptation strategies in Vanuatu and elsewhere.
