Working with first-time SoTL authors to create a new OER book: Fostering a sense of confidence, sharing guidance, and providing trauma-informed feedback

Marquart, Matthea S.; Marshall, Lia W.; Satkunasingham, Jessica; King, Carly; Balasundaram, Aparna S.

These are the slides from a session for the POD Network’s Special Interest Group (SIG) on the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), hosted by POD SoTL SIG chair Elina Salminen and incoming chair Devshikha Bose.

Session description:
This interactive session will share about a SoTL project in which 40+ educators co-created this open educational resource (OER) book: https://edtechbooks.org/designing_engaging_interactive_synchronous_online_classes.

This is a project that was low-cost, replicable, and created an opportunity for faculty and staff to both publish and learn from peers. It supported a sense of community to create this together and share it openly. Many of the chapter authors were first-time authors, and this session will include a focus on helping first-time authors think about writing about SoTL projects.

More info about this project here: https://www.onlinepedagogybooks.com/. Presenters will include Matthea Marquart and Lia W. Marshall, who are co-editors of this book, as well as chapter authors Jessica Satkunasingham, Carly King, and Aparna Balasundaram.

The slides also include quotes from Rebecca Y. Chung, Kristin Garay, and Christine D. Holmes.
