Bridging the Gap in Genomic Implementation: Identifying User Needs for Precision Nephrology
This study explored how nephrologists use genetic information in patient care and what challenges they face. Through a national survey, we found that while many physicians recognize the value of genomics for personalized care, they often feel uncertain about how to use it in practice. Common barriers include lack of experience with genetic testing and concerns about cost and insurance coverage. These findings highlight the need for better tools, especially within electronic health records, to help clinicians use genetic information more effectively. Improving support and workflows could make it easier to integrate genomics into routine care and ultimately improve outcomes for patients with kidney disease.
