The optical properties of the samples, one week after application. Top panel: 1A: gold leaf; 1B: silver leaf on red bole ground covered with gold tinted spike lavender oil varnish. Bottom panel: 1A: gold leaf; 1B: terra merita-linseed oil paint on silver leaf covered with turpentine varnish; 1C: silver leaf on red bole covered with gold colored turpentine varnish; 1D: terra merita-linseed oil paint on silver leaf covered with spike lavender oil varnish; 1E: silver leaf on gesso ground covered with gold tinted spike lavender oil varnish.
