Leaf Optical Properties 1 Week Later
The optical properties of the samples, one week after application. Top panel: 1A: gold leaf; 1B: silver leaf on red bole ground covered with gold tinted spike lavender oil varnish. Bottom panel: 1A: gold leaf; 1B: terra merita-linseed oil paint on silver leaf covered with turpentine varnish; 1C: silver leaf on red bole covered with gold colored turpentine varnish; 1D: terra merita-linseed oil paint on silver leaf covered with spike lavender oil varnish; 1E: silver leaf on gesso ground covered with gold tinted spike lavender oil varnish. Notice the difference between 1B and 1D (both bottom panel), which follow the recipe on fol. 29v, and 1B (top panel), 1C (bottom) 1E (bottom), which use the gold colored varnish of fol. 57r.
