CSSW Annual Online Faculty Development Series: 2020 UPCEA Mid-Atlantic Region Faculty & Staff Development Award -- #UPCEAMidA

During AY2018-19, the Columbia University School of Social Work (CSSW) Online Campus launched a five-session virtual Online Faculty Development Series serving our online faculty and staff nationwide. Each year, the series comprises five highly interactive 2-hour synchronous sessions, scheduled in the evenings for greater accessibility for adjunct faculty, which are recorded so that those who cannot attend live can participate asynchronously. Online Campus community members who complete all five sessions/year earn a digital badge.

The sessions include CSSW and Online Campus news and updates, and provide ongoing professional development to the Online Campus community on pedagogy, online teaching best practices and examples, and recent technology developments. Guest speakers include CSSW faculty and administrators, with the majority of presentations coming from Online Campus members.

This series is an innovation that contributes to the field of distance education by providing an example that can be replicated in part or in whole by other institutions interested in innovating their faculty development for online educators. It was awarded a 2020 University Professional and Continuing Education Association (UPCEA) Mid-Atlantic Region Faculty and Staff Development Award.

This poster presentation was for an asynchronous virtual poster session at the UPCEA Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference. During the conference, the presentation included embedded audio on each slide; that audio may be available to UPCEA members in the UPCEA archives.
