Ojos Propios: Photography by and for the People. A Curriculum Guide

Institute of Latin American Studies; Urban Arts Partnership

This curriculum guide presents exploratory photography as a way to approach Latin American and Caribbean ways of life. The content is based on the work of Ojos Propios, an initiative which originated in Peru. Ojos Propios encourages the youth to capture their surrounding images to create a collective memory that reinforces their identity. In 2015, Ojos Propios Leader Andrés Longhi and his crew traveled to ILAS, Columbia University, and conducted a workshop with New York City's students. This guide provides activities to analyze the outcomes in New York, as well as in other South American countries. The guide was produced by ILAS, in collaboration with Urban Arts Partnership.
