This article discusses the relationship between appearance and reality from a legal perspective, dismantling the belief that appearance is a superficial version of reality without any cause or impact on it. Under certain conditions, appearances can facilitate the emergence of a legal reality. Moreover, sometimes, there is no normative difference between the appearance and reality of a legal interest. The author briefly analyzes the appearance of justice in the context of the American rule of law, as viewed in banking regulations and judicial activity.
