In 1996, Chris Cassanave invited a couple dozen teacher educators to write chapters for a book she was co-editing with S. R. Schecter titled On becoming a language educator. They asked each of us to write our reflections without using jargon. Chris said my first two attempts too academic and not in tune with their idea. My third attempt, which was not a revision of my previous two but a totally different script she was thrilled to read.
