Selecting Research Data Repository Platforms for Open Science

Downs, Robert R.; Lehnert, Kerstin A.; Zhang, Lili; Donaldson, Devan; da Silva, João Rocha

Various choices of opportunities are available when selecting and implementing a data repository for open science. Considerations include adopting or developing a custom solution, contracting hosted services, procuring and installing systems, or managing a centralized or distributed system. Other options include collaboration, federation, and sharing of resources. Likewise, the need for administration, integration, and support also present choices. Sharing information, knowledge, technology, services and other resources among data repositories also offers advantages. Approaches are described for developing, adopting, and implementing data repository platforms along with approaches for data repositories to share resources.
