Managing Polluting and Inadequate Infrastructure Systems and Multiple Environmental Health Risks in Delhi

Sperling, Joshua

Delhi faces significant challenges with unreliable electricity supply, high air pollution, and increasing energy demand driven by rapid urbanization and extreme heat. The city has implemented measures such as converting coal plants to natural gas, expanding compressed natural gas (CNG) transport, improving energy efficiency, and expanding metro and bus systems. These efforts aim to reduce pollution, improve energy reliability, and lower greenhouse gas emissions while addressing public health risks. However, continued infrastructure upgrades and long-term planning are needed to meet growing demand and strengthen resilience to climate-related stresses.
