Science-Policy Interface in Santiago de Chile: Opportunities and Challenges to Effective Action
A transdisciplinary approach was used to develop a Climate Change Adaptation Plan for Santiago de Chile, bringing together over 70 scientists, governmental, and non-governmental actors. International and national partnerships helped place climate change on the policy agenda, but institutional limitations and fragmented governance have constrained effective action. Success depends on strong administrative leadership, long-term commitment, and coordination across sectors and government levels. The case highlights the importance of stakeholder engagement and integrated governance for urban climate adaptation planning.
