Barthélémy Fraysse and the Author-Practitioner of Ms. Fr. 640

Muñoz, Sarah

Among the metal founders of Toulouse, Barthélémy Fraysse stands out for his varied activities and his links to significant Toulouse individuals, such as the Poncet family, who is mentioned in Ms. Fr. 640. Original research carried out for this essay in the “Comptes du trésorier” and the “Pièces à l’appui des comptes” of the Archives municipales of Toulouse reveal that Fraysse frequently received payments from the municipality of Toulouse between 1570 and 1590. Further documents show that his activity continued through 1620. He was successively cannon maker, founder, founder of artillery, and gunner. Between 1570 and 1590, several of his activities can be compared to the subjects of multiple entries in BnF Ms. Fr. 640.
