Statement Submitted to the U.N. Global Study on Children Deprived of Liberty
In this statement to the U.N. Global Study on Children Deprived of Liberty (Global Study), we shared recent developmental and sociological research that highlights the importance of right-sizing the juvenile justice system by setting developmentally appropriate age ranges for juvenile jurisdiction, both at the lower and upper ends. We also urged the drafters of the Global Study to reconsider the definition of “children” to help address the over-incarceration of youth.
