2018 Reports
Economic Cost and Mental Health Impact of Climate Change in Calgary,
Canada
In June 2013, heavy rains caused catastrophic flooding in Calgary, displacing 50,000 residents and causing CAD6 billion in damages. Settlement on floodplains, urban density, and glacial melt worsened impacts. In response, the city implemented flood mitigation plans, green infrastructure projects like Depave Paradise, and extensive mental health support through Alberta Health Services and the Red Cross, highlighting how climate disasters affect both the economy and public health.
