As I write my final "from the director" column, I find it hard to believe that eight years have passed since I first assumed the directorship of the Harriman Institute and set out on what has turned out for me personally to be an extraordinary adventure. I could hardly have foreseen at the outset how long I would remain in the position nor what fundamental changes the Harriman Institute, the university, and our world would undergo in the intervening years.
