One Resilient Team: Tacloban City, Philippines
This case study examines the One Resilient Team: Tacloban Project, a multi-stakeholder climate adaptation initiative aimed at restoring coastal greenbelts in Tacloban City, Philippines, following the devastation of Typhoon Haiyan in 2013. The project focuses on mangrove rehabilitation and beach forest planting to enhance coastal protection, biodiversity, and local livelihoods. Implemented through collaboration among government agencies, local communities, and international partners, the initiative emphasizes a learning-oriented, participatory approach to ecosystem restoration. Despite challenges such as land ownership conflicts and environmental constraints, the project achieved high survival rates in planting and strengthened local governance through policy integration and capacity building. The case highlights the importance of continuous learning, community engagement, and institutional support in scaling nature-based solutions for urban climate resilience.
