2014-2015 Columbia Library Research Award Report

Yu, K. Kale

Through the generous support of Columbia University Libraries, I researched the activities of American missionaries in Korea from the late nineteenth century. Using mostly the Missionary Research Library Archives based in Burke Library at Union Theological Seminary, I encountered first-hand notes, journals, diaries, letters, and sermons by pioneer missionaries, such as Henry G. Appenzeller who was the first resident missionary to Korea from the Methodist Episcopal Church.
