Suite #1 for Solo 'Cello (1993)

Elia, Anthony J.

This work is for solo 'cello. The first of several suites of that kind written by the composer in early 1993 for Mrs. Eleanor Diemer, one-time principal 'cellist of the Hudson Valley Philharmonic. This first attempt at such a suite is in the style of J.S. Bach, though much shorter and simpler. Subsequent 'Cello Suites developed different forms and styles (including a Suite written for 'Cellist Elsa Hilger, formerly principal 'cellist with the Philadelphia Orchestra). The most recent collection, soon to be made available, is the composer's "Magna Sonata" for Solo 'Cello, which runs over a thousand measures.
