The Oppression Connection: Alvin Ailey and Mario Maya

For my senior thesis I examined why Israel Galvan and Belen Maya are currently the most famous flamenco choreographers and performers and why their works are often cited as being new and innovated but without question still flamenco. How is it that Galvan and Maya can so consistently and successful push the envelope while remaining true to the form? What about their work speaks so well to international audiences?
