An Exploration of Community Health

Stancioff, Charlotte Eloise

While living in the Nova Suiça settlement, I studied the MST’s use of medicinal plants in conjunction with the SUS community health programs found at the nearby health clinic. By interviewing settlers and health professionals, administering MST community surveys, and conducting fieldwork on the use of medicinal plants, I gained a more complete understanding of both the SUS public health programs and traditional MST medicine.
Research in Brazil leads to reflections on community health programs.
