Google Ngrams for Individualism: Do They Trace a Loss of Innovation?
A discussion of using Google Ngrams to interrogate the thesis of Phelps' 2013 book "Mass Flourishing: How Grassroots Innovation Created Jobs, Challenge, and Change"--that it was key modernist values, such as individualism, vitalism and self-expression, that stimulated the innovation that sprouted up in 19th century Britain, America, Germany and France.
