Clubbed to Death: The Decline of New York City Nightlife Culture Since the Late 1980s

Wei, Whitney

The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the impact of city policy changes and the processes of gentrification on 1980s nightlife subculture in New York City. As a consequence of the city's positive economic trajectory and gradual revanchism of neighborhood properties, the self-destructive nature of this after-hours sector ultimately led to its own demise.
