Downstepped Contours in the Given/New Distinction: Presentation Powerpoint Slides

This presentation starts with an introduction to ToBI or Tones and Break Indices. The introduction includes a review of discourse structure, information status, the meaning of intonational contours, and downstepped contours. Next, the presentation discusses the Boston Directions Corpus. This discussion includes a description of the corpus, a description of downstep and discourse structure, and a description of downstep and information status. The presentation ends with a discussion of the Games Project, including a description of the corpus as well as areas of ongoing and future research.
