Data Rescue at a Scientific Data Center
Data rescue offers value for science and the communities of current and future researchers who will have the opportunity to use scientific data that have been rescued. The value of rescuing scientific data is described and some examples of data rescue efforts by the Earth science community are reviewed. Data rescue issues and scientific data centers are described along with data rescue efforts of the NASA Socioeconomic Data and Applications Center (SEDAC). Three examples of recent SEDAC data rescue efforts are presented, followed by practical observations on data rescue and recommendations for data rescue planning.
