Violence and the LGBTQ Community
Domestic violence in same–sex relationships occur at the same rate as heterosexual relationships. This brief examines the challenges in regards to handling of domestic violence for LGBTQ peoples that are not present for heterosexual peoples. For example, not all LGBTQ victims of hate crimes turn to law enforcement after suffering an attack because of fear of bias crime reporting, when law enforcement does not correctly diagnose an attack on an LGBTQ person as a hate crime.
