This articles deals with the importance of the 16th century culture in the Italian Enlightenment. In particular It provides a lexical analysis of a some passages of a 16th century source of Lodovico Antonio Muratori's thought: the unpublished and almost unknown legal treatise entitled "Contra la sofistica disciplina de' giureconsulti" (Against the sophistic discipline of jurists) written by Giovanni Ingegneri.
