Medieval Arabic Literature between History and Psychology: Gustave von Grunebaum's Approach to Literary Criticism
This paper deals with Gustave von Grunebaum's approach to literary criticism. The topic accounts for his reputation within the scientific community of Near Eastern studies. Although the above mentioned articles by Laroui, Turner, and Waines are part of the discussion on Grunebaum the Orientalist which concentrates on Grunebaum's way of representing modern Muslim societies to his Western audience. Edward Said's concept of Oriemalism will not be my frame of reference, because I am interested in Grunebaum's understanding of medieval Arabic literature.
