"Moving from Site-specific to Museum-specific Dance: An Examination of Museum Workout's Dialogue with The Met" dissects Monica Bill Barnes & Co.'s 2017 site-specific dance Museum Workout, which takes place in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. A collaboration with visual artist Maira Kalman, Barnes implements dance to challenge the Met's curatorial practices and to propose an alternative method of viewing art. "Museum Workout" engages with the history of The Met to produce a provocative, engaging, and humorous critique of the art canon.
