Notes

From Steven Stellman: In 1986 NIH approval was required for field testing of genetically modified plants. As an American Cancer Society staffer I was stunned, to say the least, that one of the first candidates was tobacco. I shared my concern with ACS Sr. VP and former NCI director Dick Rauscher, who encouraged this note. See a follow-up letter in Academic Commons at http://dx.doi.org/10.7916/D8V12304
