Tragic Lament Suite: for Piano and Flute
This early work by the composer was written for the occasion of a concert hosted in Sykes Common Room at St. Lawrence University in the Spring of 1995. The concert was put on by the composer and featured works written that year exclusively by Elia, and was attended by over one hundred university and community members. This work was premiered by Russian pianist and friend of the composer, Dmitry Sityaev and flutist and friend Carrie Carr. Other works on the program, which will be available on Academic Commons include a traditional song, sung by soprano Jill Stevenson, an oboe-piano work, performed by Nathan Mastro and Mr. Sityaev, a flute solo by Ms. Carr, and two additional works for piano by Mr. Sityaev (including a 4-part work entitled "The Laurentian Suite" for solo piano). Mr. Elia concluded the program playing a partial-impromptu rhapsody titled "The Age of Reason." A video recording was made of the concert.
