Migrating an IR to New Technology: Opportunities, Challenges, and Decision-Making Processes

Columbia University Libraries is undertaking a major project to migrate Academic Commons, Columbia’s open access research repository, to a new technology stack based on Fedora 4; Sufia 7; Hyacinth, a mediated-deposit tool; and a CRIS system based on Symplectic Elements. Understanding the decision-making drivers by which the issues are prioritized and addressed at various project stages can help members of the community undertaking a similar task by informing them about the challenges and opportunities of such an effort and the managed processes for making such a project a success.
