Integrating Mitigation and Adaptation in Climate Action Planning in Quito, Ecuador
Quito, Ecuador, faces rising temperatures, extreme weather, and ecosystem loss affecting water and food security. In response, the city implemented an integrated Climate Change Strategy and Action Plan (2009–2012) addressing adaptation and mitigation across key sectors. Stakeholder engagement and prioritization of multi-benefit measures have promoted resilience, emissions reduction, and sustainable development, while ongoing evaluation and impact monitoring support implementation and urban climate governance.
