Rado Lencek, 1921–2005

Our friend and colleague, Rado Lencek, Professor Emeritus of Slavic Languages and Civilizations, died on January 27, 2005. A prolific scholar of linguistics, philology and ethnography, Lencek taught at Columbia from 1965 to 1992. Lencek was a member of seven Central and Eastern European Academies of Sciences and Arts, and a founding member and past president of the Society for Slovene Studies.
