Taufiqurrahman, T

Ponorogo, a regency in East Java, Indonesia, boasts a rich cultural heritage intertwined with its city centre, which embodies the traditional Javanese concept of urban planning. This concept, rooted in Islamic principles, emphasizes the harmonization of human life with nature and society.
The Javanese city centre concept, epitomized by the aloon-aloon (city square), represents a traditional urban planning approach that integrates Environment-Social-Economy-Governance-Education (ESEGE) elements. However, this concept faces challenges of modernization and neglect, endangering its intrinsic values and functionality.
However, over time, this heritage has been overshadowed, leading to neglect and transformation of key elements. This study explores the historical significance, evolution, and potential revitalization of Ponorogo city centre, offering insights into its relevance in contemporary urban development and climate change mitigation strategies.
