A Conversation With Assembly Member Richard N. Gottfried on the Eve of His Retirement From Public Office

Richard N. Gottfried represented a large area on Manhattan in the NYS Legislature for 52 years, and was Chair of the NYS Assembly Health Committee for 35 of those years. Shortly before his retirement at the end of 2022, the NYS Bar Association Health Law Section sponsored a conference reviewing his accomplishments in health access, civil liberties, end-of-life decision-making, and health care oversight. The final item on the program was an interview conducted by Robert N. Swidler. This is a transcript of that interview, as edited by then-Health Law Section Chair Jane Bello Burke.
