Cohen, Laura

This essay explores the interbeing of all earthly bodies, sentient and insentient, from the perspectives of Zen Buddhism, butoh, and ecological phenomenology. Of particular concern is the illusion of autonomy that pervades dominant modern cultures and the destruction and degradation of life this illusion causes. The paper points toward reconnecting to our entwinement with the earth and other beings by slowing down and paying attention to our sense perceptions.

Keywords: Climate crisis, eco-crisis, poly-crisis, Zen Buddhism, butoh, eco-phenomenology, interbeing, awareness
