Conservation, Restoration and Ecotourism in Trapeang Sangkae, Cambodia
The Trapeang Sangkae Community-Based Natural Resource Management project in Kampot, Cambodia, demonstrates the successful conservation and restoration of mangrove forests while improving local livelihoods. Initiated by local fishers in 2005 and formalized in 2011, the project combines ecosystem protection, sustainable resource management, and community-driven ecotourism. Over nearly two decades, mangrove coverage increased from 31 to 56 hectares, supporting biodiversity, climate resilience, and income generation, while fostering education and community engagement.
