Multilingual Dialogues between Artifacts and Words in Early Modern Times
In Early Modern times, the languages of art history became saturated with daedal terminologies. In particular, in the context of the myriad contacts that unfolded across four continents, radically novel artifacts were observed, named, described, sometimes misspelled, but also admired and praised with meaningful words. Multiple languages interacted in these labyrinthine processes, producing unpredictable phonetic and orthographic changes, striking neologisms or syntagmatic combinations, as well as major shifts in lexical connotations. ...
