Guiding Justice Reform Initiatives for Emerging Adults: A New Developmental Framework

Siringil Perker, Selen; Chester, Lael E. H.

In this presentation for SAMHSA’s GAINS Center’s Diversion and Supports for Transition-Age Youth in the Criminal Justice System Learning Collaborative, we provided a brief overview of emerging justice policy and practice reform initiatives for transition-age youth (ages 18–25). We also discussed the key aspects of a new developmental framework we created in collaboration with a multidisciplinary group of experts, with the support of the Annie E. Casey Foundation. The developmental framework project is a multi-year, research- and site-based initiative aimed at developing and testing the framework, with the goal of profoundly reorienting the justice system’s response to emerging adults.
