Remembering Babylon: The Fault Lines of Mizrahi Revival

Zohar, Ryan

This thesis examines several types of Mizrahi cultural production in Israel/Palestine in order to examine the ways that the politics of Mizrahi culture either clash or converge with state discourse. The particular chapters of the thesis focus on food, music, language, and digital diplomacy. In doing so, the work intervenes in broader debates surrounding Arab Jewish history as well as the relationship between nationalism and cultural production.
