Kunshan, a city of nearly 2 million in China’s Yangtze River Delta, is expanding health care services with three new facilities, including a Western medicine hospital, a traditional Chinese medicine hospital, and a comprehensive health center housing disease control, maternal, and child health services. The Eastern Health Care Center exemplifies green technology and sustainable design, with modular construction, energy-efficient heating and cooling, solar panels, and water-saving systems that reduce consumption by 70%, far exceeding standard efficiency guidelines. These measures lower greenhouse gas emissions, reduce reliance on municipal water and power, enhance resilience to drought and floods, and minimize infection and hazardous waste risks. As one of Kunshan’s largest public buildings, the complex sets a benchmark for environmentally sensitive health infrastructure, supporting the city’s sustainable development goals.
