From Aug/Sep 1866 to Aug 1867, the queer Jewish artist Simeon Solomon (1840-1905) traveled to Italy for the first time. This article draws on archival resources to document new information about that trip and its importance to his career, and discusses significant works of art he painted while there.
This article was originally published in the first issue (February 2009) of the e-journal Ravenna, part of the Oscholars network, but is no longer accessible online.
