Re-examining the Cuban Missile Crisis

On October 24, 2012, a group of distinguished scholars and journalists gathered for a panel discussion, “50 Years Later: Re-examining the Cuban Missile Crisis,” co-sponsored by the Harriman Institute and the Arnold A. Saltzman Institute for War and Peace Studies. On that particular day in history fifty years ago, U.S. Military forces moved into DEFCON 2, the second highest state of alert on a five-level scale, for the first and only time during the postwar era.
